‘He or She Is a Sexist’

Your editorial on sexist pronouns touched a button. I am bored to pieces with the scramble to avoid insulting someone with time-honored usage of our language.

Instead of the his/her controversy, why not “One who drives without a seat belt takes one’s life in one’s hands?” A bit clumsy, you say. Then, how about, “If you drive without a seat belt, you take your life in your hands.” That is acceptable, whether admonishing one person or a group of undetermined number. After all, everyone is a “you.”

Or have I missed another point in the battle of the sexes?
