Israel Asks U.N. for File on Waldheim
From Reuters
UNITED NATIONS — Israel asked formally today for access to the U.N. file on former Secretary General Kurt Waldheim and “other relevant material” of the U.N. War Crimes Commission, a government spokesman said.
It was the first such request by a member state since the controversy about Waldheim’s background as an officer in Hitler’s army developed some weeks ago.
The United Nations’ War Crimes Commission archives are accessible only to governments that request them and then only on a basis of strict confidentiality.
