HIGH SCHOOL SPRING HIGHLIGHTS : Montclair Prep Consoled by 2 Wins in Coachella

Montclair Prep won the consolation title Tuesday in the Coachella Valley Baseball tournament, beating Central, 16-7, and Palm Springs, 7-5, in extra innings.
A grand slam by Reggie Smith Jr., sparked a six-run second inning for the Mounties in their game against Central. Scott Randall, who reached base on 12 consecutive at-bats through three games in the tournament, was 3 for 3 with a solo home run and four runs batted in.
With the score tied, 5-5, and one out in the ninth, Montclair Prep’s Jeff Light hit a two-run homer to defeat Palm Springs in the consolation final.
Randall, Smith and Curtis Minks were each 2 for 5 against Palm Springs. Smith (2-0) was the winning pitcher.
Montclair Prep is 7-1 overall, 2-0 in Alpha League.
Queen of Angels 6, Salesian 5--Tim Preinsberger of Queen of Angels doubled with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning Tuesday, scoring Tony Calvano in a nonleague game.
Calvano and Joe Hernandez led the Angels’ offense with two hits each.
Calvano was 2 for 3 and scored two runs. Hernandez was 2 for 2 with two doubles and an RBI.
Queen of Angels is 3-3-2.
Chaminade 9, St. Genevieve 5--Shortstop John Sunde led the Eagles to a second straight Santa Fe League victory at Chaminade.
Sunde, a senior, was 3 for 4 with two RBIs, two stolen bases and two runs scored. Teammates Terry Siciliano and Peter Dunn also had productive days at bat.
Siciliano was 2 for 3 with a home run, four RBIs and two runs scored. Dunn, a senior center fielder, was 2 for 3 with a stolen base.
Denny Vigo (1-1) was the winning pitcher.
Chaminade is 5-1 overall, 2-0 in league. St. Genevieve is 3-4, 1-1.
Providence 15, Rio Hondo 0--Tony Ross, Richard Campus and Adam Grant had three hits each for the Pioneers in a nonleague game at Providence.
Winning pitcher Jeff Cirillo (4-1) pitched his second complete game of the season, allowing one hit, striking out 10 and walking three. The game was called after five innings.
Providence is 6-1.
Softball
Royal 1, Westlake 0--Lora Grant pitched her fifth complete game of the season to lead the Highlanders in the fifth place game of the Righetti High tournament.
Grant (5-2) allowed three hits and struck out three.
Royal is 9-5 overall.
Montclair 3, Moorpark 0--The Musketeers were eliminated from the Charter Oak tournament with their second loss in two days.
Wendy Womack was 2 for 3 for Moorpark.
Moorpark (3-4) lost to Azusa, 8-5, in the first round Monday.
