An 83-year-old man who had been cooking in his car in Berkeley was found burned to death in the vehicle, and police said the doors had been wired shut to keep out intruders. Police said Harry Brondz, who lived out of his 1963 sedan, had wired the right and left doors together with an electric cord. When fire spread from a portable stove that Brondz was using in the vehicle, he was trapped inside with his papers, clothing, canned goods and other belongings.
