San Diego Lions A Baseball : Coronado Gets In Batting Practice and Forfeits Win
Although the Coronado baseball team soundly defeated Christian, 10-4, in the A Division of the Lions/Mike Morrow Invitational baseball tournament, the game was forfeited to Christian because Coronado took batting practice prior to the game, a violation of CIF rules.
In Coronado’s second game of the tournament, the Islanders downed Carlsbad, 6-4.
In other A Division games:
San Pasqual 6, Marian 3--Junior Darren Dunn (2-1) struck out 10 in seven innings to earn the win for the Golden Eagles. Darby Barrett had a triple and three RBIs.
San Pasqual 7, La Jolla Country Day 0--Dunn hit a two-run home run in the four-run first to lift the Eagles over the Torres. Kelly Simpson (1-0) went the distance and threw a three-hitterfor the win.
Francis Parker 4, Escondido 3 (10 innings)--Escondido catcher Gary Larrabee overthrew third baseman Andy Martin on a pickoff attempt, allowing Mike Hammett to score and giving Parker the win.
Escondido 8, Saint Augustine 1--Sophomore Andy Martin was 4 for 4, including one triple, to lead the Cougars, who registered 14 hits. Escondido pitcher Mike Hopkins (1-2) went the distance, striking out nine.
La Jolla 16, El Camino 0--La Jolla took advantage of nine walks to roll to this win. The game was stopped after the fifth inning because of time limitations.
Mar Vista 7, El Camino 0--Mar Vista erupted for five runs in the fourth inning to easily down the Wildcats. El Camino gave up only one earned run but committed three errors.
Oceanside 2, St. Augustine 1--Henry Jimenez scored the winning run in the fifth when he reached third on a three-base error and came home on a wild pitch.
Oceanside 10, Parker 3--Jim Woolard went 4 for 4 and had six RBIs to lead the host Pirates in their second game of the day. He hit a three-run homer in the sixth when Oceanside scored six runs to break open a close game.
Lincoln 6, Mar Vista 1--Lincoln pitcher Keith Mitchell (2-0) had two home runs and went the distance on the mound to lead the Hornets to victory. Mitchell had a two-run homer in the first inning and a solo shot in the fourth.
Lincoln 6, La Jolla 3--Maurice Burks had a three-run triple in the fifth inning, capping a four-run Lincoln rally, to pace the Hornets. Pitcher Anthony Johnson (1-1) went the distance for the win.
Clairemont 14, La Jolla Country Day 4--With two outs in the fourth inning, the Chiefs took advantage of five walks and scored five runs. Clairemont pitcher Danny Moran (1-0) went the distance for the win.
Clairemont 9, Marian 3--Mike Giardano’s three-run homer capped a four-hit, four-run first inning for the Chiefs. Clairemont finished the game with 13 hits. Pitcher Andy Williams (1-1) pitched all seven innings for the win.
