Rites to Be Conducted for Thomas Self
Memorial services for Thomas M. Self, former Los Angeles bureau chief of BusinessWeek magazine and founding editor of Executive magazine, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Chapman College Chapel in Orange.
Self, 63, died Friday of stomach cancer.
Born in La Mesa, he came to Los Angeles in 1950 where he served as bureau chief for BusinessWeek for 27 years. He left BusinessWeek to found Orange County-based Executive magazine. He was listed as a contributing editor at the time of his death.
The San Clemente resident also wrote almost all of the scripts for Lockheed’s Science Digest radio program, which was heard in Los Angeles and Washington for four years and rebroadcast on the Voice of America five times a week.
Self is survived by his wife, Jane; two sons, Robert and Douglas; one daughter, Trudy; one stepson, William Asher; and a stepdaughter, Katherine Asher.
The family suggests that contributions be made to the Delta Delta Delta fund for hematology and oncology at Childrens Hospital of Los Angeles.
