Mateja Svet capped the greatest season in Yugoslav skiing history by breezing to victory in a women’s giant slalom at Bromont, Canada, in the final World Cup ski race of the season.
The 17-year-old Svet won both runs down the Coupe du Monde course to post an aggregate time of 2 minutes 17.16 seconds. Olga Charvatova of Czechoslovakia was second in 2:18.76, while Switzerland’s Vreni Schneider was third in 2:19.27.
Svet’s second victory of the season to cap an all-Yugoslav weekend was the eighth victory of the season for Yugoslavia, which had only five in the previous 19 seasons of World Cup competition.
