Court Elections

In reporting that the only countywide offices at stake in the June election are sheriff, supervisor and assessor, The Times neglected to mention the three vacant Los Angeles County Superior Court offices that must also be filled by the voters.
While candidates for the Board of Supervisors are elected within a district by one-fifth of the county’s voters, candidates for the Superior Court must run throughout Los Angeles County, trying to reach almost 3.5 million voters.
Superior Court judges in Los Angeles County serve more than 8 million citizens, a constituency larger than that of 88 members of the U.S. Senate.
