Bradley’s Anti-Apartheid Plan

Mayor Tom Bradley today proposed an anti-apartheid program that would prevent city contracts worth more than $100 million from going to companies doing business with South Africa. The program has to be approved by the City Council.
“My policy is a prudent, fiscally responsible action that will strike hard at those businesses which ignore the fact their economic activities prop up a brutal, racist system,” Bradley told a news conference. Officials have identified 74 companies that may have to choose between doing business with South Africa or Los Angeles.
