The California Conservation Corps will accept applications from men and women between the ages of 18 and 23 interested in working to restore and maintain the environment.
The CCC is a work ethic program that employs more than 2,000 people a year. Members build parks and trails, plant trees, clear streams and restore historic buildings. They also can be called upon to fight fires and floods.
Corps members receive three weeks’ training, then are assigned to a CCC residential center. They are paid minimum wage, $580 a month, plus benefits, but $145 is deducted for room and board at residential centers.
Applications will be taken between 4 and 9 p.m. on March 27 at the Washington Community Center, 250 E. Cypress St. in Anaheim.
CCC Pomona Center area manager Walter Hughes said the jobs provide young people interested in a challenging year of outdoor work with an opportunity to help protect California’s natural resources while developing job skills.
For applicants who sign up with a friend, the CCC offers a “buddy bonus,” assigning both to the same center, he said.
The CCC’s Pomona Center is at Lanterman Developmental Hospital in Pomona and has satellite locations in Monterey Park and Twentynine Palms.
