Cal Poly Pomona Women Reach Semifinals
Debra Larsen and Debbie Flett each scored 15 points and Vickie Mitchell added 14 Friday night to lead defending champion Cal Poly Pomona to an 83-49 victory over Bellarmine (Ky.) College in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division II women’s basketball tournament at Cal Poly Pomona.
The win advanced the Broncos to the Final Four for the fourth time in five years. They will play either Delta (Miss.) State or Hampton (Va.) in the semifinals Thursday at Springfield, Mass. The championship game will be played Saturday.
Larsen, named MVP of the quarterfinals, and Mitchell each had 11 rebounds. Mitchell also had nine steals and five assists.
The Broncos are 28-3. Bellarmine finished 23-7.
