Irish Protest Queen’s Party, Royalists Yell ‘Ratbags--Go Back’

ADELAIDE, Australia — Royalists shouted, “Ratbags--go back to your own country,” at Irish separatists who disrupted a reception for Queen Elizabeth II tonight.
Several thousand royalists cheered the queen as she arrived for the reception at Adelaide Town Hall and waved to them from a balcony.
But the cheers were drowned out at one stage by cries from about 40 banner-carrying separatists.
“These people (royalists) are here to prove their loyalty to the queen; we’re here to prove our disloyalty,” said Jimmy Irvine, a 47-year-old Irish immigrant.
Many elderly people faced the demonstrators down, shouting: “Ratbags! Why don’t you go back to your own country?”
