Washington State Beats San Diego State
SAN DIEGO — A three-run sixth inning was all Washington State’s baseball team needed Sunday to beat San Diego State, 3-2.
SDSU (8-5) led, 1-0, in the first when Eric Woods scored on a sacrifice fly by left fielder Dan Lopes. The Aztecs added another run in the third on an RBI single by Lopes.
Washington State’s Guy Normand (2-0) went all the way, striking out nine.
In the sixth, John Hansen’s RBI triple cut the SDSU lead to 2-1. Hansen scored to tie the game, 2-2, on a single by Dave Kilhefner. After Kilhefner advanced to second on a wild pitch, he scored the winning run on catcher Jeff Hooper’s base hit.
Mike Erb (3-1) was the losing pitcher.
Washington State is 4-2. The two teams play a doubleheader today at 1 p.m. at San Diego State’s Smith Field.
