Israeli Army Women Face Court-Martial for Hitching Rides
Associated Press
TEL AVIV — Women soldiers who are caught trying to hitch rides at night will be court-martialed, the weekly army magazine Bamahaneh said.
The regulations are designed to safeguard the soldiers from assault and rape, the magazine said in its latest edition.
Israeli women are drafted for two years of mandatory service at age 18.
According to unofficial estimates, about one-third of the army’s approximately 170,000 soldiers are women. The army does not release such data.
