LAKESIDE — A 59-year-old man was killed early Saturday on California 67 near Riverford Road when his pickup truck was hit by a car driven by a young woman who fell asleep at the wheel, the California Highway Patrol reported.
Edward R. Pellon of Santee was pronounced dead at the scene of the 5:40 a.m. accident. Pellon’s truck collided with a car driven by Carol L. Lapp, 18, of Ramona.
Lapp, the CHP said, fell asleep while driving, causing her car to drift onto the center divider. She woke up but lost control when she over-corrected, causing her car to strike Pellon’s pickup on the right rear side. Lapp was not injured.
