College Softball : Krall Throws No-Hitter for USIU

SAN DIEGO — Robin Krall pitched a no-hitter Thursday as the United States International University softball team swept a doubleheader from UC Santa Barbara. The Gulls won both games by 1-0 scores.
Krall’s no-hitter in the nightcap was the first by a USIU pitcher in two seasons. The Gulls scored their only run in the fourth inning of the second game on left fielder Sue Leahy’s RBI single.
The first game was scoreless until the 10th, when Leahy scored from third on a dropped fly ball by UCSB second baseman January Jackson.
USIU is 10-6. UCSB is 4-6.
Elsewhere in college softball:
San Diego State 3-3, Cal State Dominguez Hills 2-1--Lisa Michie pitched a six-hitter to help the Aztecs win the opening game in eight innings and then delivered a tie-breaking RBI single in the second game for SDSU (7-5). Michie improved her record to 3-3 in the opener when Sherri Percival hit a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth off losing pitcher Denise Biller. In the second game, SDSU trailed 1-0 before scoring a run in the fourth to tie and two more in the fifth, the first coming on Michie’s hit. Vickie Bence (4-2) was the winning pitcher.
