Unbeaten Edison Girls Will Play Mission Viejo for Soccer 4-A Title
The Edison High School girls’ soccer team will try to cap an unbeaten season by winning the CIF Southern Section 4-A championship tonight. The Chargers face Mission Viejo in the 4-A final at 6 p.m. at Gahr High in Cerritos.
Edison (25-0-2), the Sunset League champion, has not lost since being eliminated in last season’s semifinals. The Chargers are led by Joy Biefeld, a senior forward who leads the Southern Section with 46 goals.
The Chargers ran their unbeaten streak to 27 games Tuesday, when Biefeld scored the only goal in a 1-0 semifinal victory over Laguna Hills.
Mission Viejo (23-3-2), the South Coast League champion, used penalty kicks to win in the quarterfinals and semifinals. The Diablos knocked off second-seeded Torrance, 3-2, in the tiebreaker of Tuesday’s semifinal. Regulation ended in a scoreless tie.
