D.A., Rose Bird

It seems that the vendetta of the “prosecuting attorneys” against the California Supreme Court and its scapegoat, Chief Justice Rose Elizabeth Bird, knows no bounds or ethics.
At the recent inspirational dinner meeting given by county Supervisor Harriett Wieder, one of the speakers, Dist. Atty. Cecil Hicks, took advantage of Wieder’s invitation to speak to conduct a disgraceful and unethical diatribe against Justice Bird.
Sheriff Brad Gates, the other speaker, properly gave an interesting talk on developments in his department. But Hicks embarrassed his hostess and insulted the intelligence of about 400 civic leaders gathered for the purpose of recognizing their efforts on behalf of their communities.
Hicks, piously disclaiming any personal motivation, proceeded to misrepresent the role and actions of the Supreme Court and present a series of distortions and lies about court cases, laying the blame with Justice Bird.
Having just read the word-by-word analysis made by the former president of the Bar Assn. of the errors, distortions and convenient omissions in the California District Attorney’s Assn. white paper against Bird, I was shocked and frightened by the blatant misuse of his public office by Hicks.
If the association’s white paper and Hicks are representative of the “prosecuting attorneys” in this state, then we must all fear for our constitutional rights.
