A man working on a disabled car on the shoulder of Interstate 805 near Federal Boulevard in San Diego was struck and killed by hit-run driver Saturday, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The coroner’s office tentatively identified the dead man as Rubin Leyva, age unknown, who was believed to a Mexican citizen.
The accident occurred about 4:50 a.m. when Leyva was standing next to the car, which had pulled over on the right shoulder of southbound I-805. A companion of Leyva’s was in the car attempting to restart it.
A car sideswiped the disabled vehicle, hitting Leyva, and then fled the scene. A short while later, the driver of the hit-run car, whose name was not available, returned to the scene and was arrested, the CHP said.
Neither Leyva’s companion, whose name also was unavailable, nor the hit-run driver was injured.
