Drawing Battle Lines in Custody Wars
Chesler, besides being naive (“I’m the feminist, I always thought I would be the one to walk out”), is misinformed in regard to her 70% figure (referring to mothers who lose their children) in custody cases.
Very few fathers win custody of their children. Perhaps Chesler is interpreting joint custody (both parents working to raise the child) as a loss, rather than the gain that it really is. That win is for the child.
As a single father raising a 6-year-old son, I truly object to your helping Chesler sell both her philosophy and her book. Why not devote that third of a page to improving relations between divorced parents?
Better yet, your author should spend some time with us “career guys” who raise our kids, work for worthwhile causes, and still win the “Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval.”
