On a recent Friday evening while I was watching “Mr. Belvedere,” ABC had a promo for “Diff’rent Strokes” with a jovial voice-over announcer saying something to the effect of “Next on ‘Diff’rent Strokes’: Is Kimberly a junk-food junkie?,” while viewers saw actress Dana Plato, as Kimberly, stuffing her face. Yet the program was not about a girl who likes to eat Twinkies. It was about bulimia, that very serious eating disorder from which people can die. An otherwise well-written, informative program probably lost a lot of viewers because of ABC’s lack of good judgment.
