VET Q&A; : Crazy About Gophers
Q: I live in the San Bernardino Mountains, where the gophers are driving me insane. How can I get rid of them? Would a cat be the answer?
A: Instead of getting a cat, contact an exterminator. In the first place, a cat eventually will cost you more money. Second, domestic cats should, in my opinion, be discouraged from hunting, since eating birds and rodents can cause parasitic infestations that may be transmitted to humans. Finally, feathers and bones can cause intestinal impactions and perforations, leading to costly medical treatment.
