UC Irvine’s Swim Teams Sweep

UC Irvine’s Jennifer Luhn was a triple winner Saturday, and the Anteaters scored a 69-59 nonconference women’s swimming victory over Pomona-Pitzer at Irvine.
Luhn, an All-American breast-stroker at UCLA before transferring to UCI, won the 100-meter breaststroke in 1:10.84, the 200 breast in 2:32.46 and the 400 individual medley in 4:43.62. Melanie Reed also had a good day for the Anteaters (3-10), winning two events. She captured the 100 free in 55.65 and remained unbeaten this season in the 50 free by turning in a time of 25.70.
In men’s swimming action:
UC Irvine 84, Pomona-Pitzer 39--Freshman Christopher Ro won two events at Irvine as the Anteaters improved their record to 8-5. Ro won the 500 free with a time of 5:04.79 and the 1,000 free in 10:30.88. UCI’s 400 free relay team ran its unbeaten string to 13 straight races, winning by almost three seconds in 3:15.54.
The Anteaters will play host to Pepperdine Saturday at noon in the Waves’ last-ever dual meet. Pepperdine is canceling its swimming program next season.
