Testing and repair of worn-out steam generator tubes may delay resumption of operations at the Rancho Seco nuclear power plant near Sacramento. Start-up had been scheduled for March 8, but a Sacramento Municipal Utility District spokesman said the walls of a dozen 55-foot-long tubes were discovered worn down by at least 30%. He said technicians probably will check about 3% of the more than 15,000 tubes in one of the plant’s two generators.
