Commuter Lanes and Two Freeways
For a number of weeks now, I have been reading The Times editorials on the “commuter lanes” installed on the Costa Mesa and 91 freeways. The Times has called them a “success.”
Nothing could be further from the truth.
I myself cannot speak about the Costa Mesa Freeway, but I can of the 91 Freeway, where I am a consistent driver.
The accident rate has certainly increased on an already-beleaguered freeway.
Travel time on this freeway has increased for the single-passenger car.
The Times, in its Feb. 9 editorial, “Test Deserves More Time,” only advocates having a bad scene shoved down our throats whether we like it or not.
Opponents are right. The additional lane should be open to all.
