‘Tap Into’ Religion, Buchanan Tells GOP

WASHINGTON — Patrick J. Buchanan, White House director of communications, told the nation’s religious broadcasters Tuesday the Republican Party must “tap into the spiritual revival” if it hopes to keep the Reagan revolution alive.
“The Republican Party must break through the thin crust of petty politics with which this town is concerned . . . and tap into the spiritual revival that is going in the country,” Buchanan said in a speech to the National Religious Broadcasters.
Buchanan blamed the Supreme Court--”that rogue elephant of middle century”--for much of the social and foreign policy ills in the last three decades, citing its decisions on pornography, school prayer and abortion as rulings that undermined the spiritual nature of the nation.
