Oakland Teachers Settle Strike

OAKLAND — Hundreds of striking Oakland teachers cheered wildly this morning, then overwhelmingly approved a contract agreement to settle a four-week strike in the state’s sixth largest school district.
Harold Boyd, executive director of the Oakland Education Assn., said the teachers ratified the package by a margin of 1,200 to 64. The tentative agreement, which grants teachers pay increases totaling 20% over the next three years, was reached shortly before midnight between negotiators for the teachers’ union and school administration.
