Detroit Mayor Shatters Golf Club’s Color Barrier

DETROIT — Mayor Coleman A. Young will become the first black member of the exclusive Detroit Golf Club and shatter an 80-year-old racial barrier. The club’s 12-member board of directors approved Young’s application Wednesday night on the first ballot.
