Sen. John F. Foran to Retire After 24 Years

SACRAMENTO — Veteran state Sen. John F. Foran (D-San Francisco), who helped shape highway and transit funding bills for parts of three decades, announced Tuesday that he will not seek reelection.
Foran, 55, chairman of the Senate Transportation Committee, said he had enjoyed his 24 years in the Legislature “immensely,” but had been thinking about retiring “for some time.”
Foran said said he planned to practice law in Sacramento.
