S. African Police Kill 7 Blacks
JOHANNESBURG, South Africa — Riot patrols shot and killed seven blacks and wounded 40 others in Bekkersdal township where a crowd of black miners stabbed and stoned to death two white policemen, authorities said today.
Riot patrols sealed off the area and conducted house-to-house searches in an effort to track down some of the mob involved in the police killings Tuesday. Police said that 250 blacks from the township were rounded up for questioning and that at one roadblock police found a Soviet-designed AK-47 assault rifle and six grenades in a car.
