Polee Scores 19 as Pepperdine Holds Off Portland for Win
PORTLAND, Ore. — Senior guard Dwayne Polee scored 19 points Saturday to lead Pepperdine to a 60-55 victory over Portland in a West Coast Athletic Conference basketball game.
Pepperdine’s free-throw shooting was the difference, as the Waves made 20 of 22 free throws, while Portland managed to convert only 13 of 25 free-throw attempts.
The Waves (14-3 overall, 2-0 in conference) led by five at halftime, but spent most of the second half trying to stave off Portland’s comeback.
Senior forward Dwayne Corbitt capped a seven-point scoring run with a layup with 7:27 remaining to give Portland a 46-44 lead. Corbitt led the Pilots with 13.
Pepperdine battled back and took the lead for good on Eric White’s 12-footer with 3:48 left in the game. White finished with eight points.
The defeat dropped Portland to 0-2 in the conference and 9-7 overall.
