Los Angeles County Supervisors ordered a study that could lead to a ballot measure to change the county assessor’s job from an elected to an appointed position. Supervisor Deane Dana, who authored the motion, said elected county assessor’s were “established in another era, when assessors had more discretion and when property taxes comprised the bulk” of county revenues.
