TORONTO — Goalie Roland Melanson will join the Kings tonight when they play the Toronto Maple Leafs in the opener of a five-game trip.
King Coach Pat Quinn said Melanson probably won’t start tonight’s game, however. Melanson was traded to the Kings last month in a three-way deal with the New York Rangers and Minnesota North Stars. He had been out since suffering a groin injury while with the North Stars Nov. 19.
Right wing Jim Fox, who has missed 26 games with a disk injury, is expected to return to action.
The Kings will play at Buffalo Sunday, at Pittsburgh Wednesday, at Minnesota next Friday and at St. Louis next Saturday.
The Kings beat the Maple Leafs Dec. 18 at the Forum, 4-3. Toronto has the worst record in the National Hockey League and the Kings have the second-worst.
