Langston’s Jumper at Buzzer Gives CS Long Beach Win Over Penn State

MILWAUKEE — DeAnthony Langston hit an eight-foot jump shot at the buzzer to give Cal State Long Beach a 47-45 win over Penn State in the first round of the Milwaukee tournament Friday night.
The 49ers (4-6) advance to the championship game tonight against Marquette, which rolled to a 70-57 win over Valparaiso in the second game Friday night.
The 49ers took a 34-26 lead early in the second half on Morlon Wiley’s 18-foot jumper.
The Nittany Lions (4-3) rallied to cut the lead to 35-31, then tied it at 39-39 on Tom Hovasse’s turn-around jumper with 9:15 left.
The 49ers scored six straight points for a 45-39 lead with 7:37 remaining. Stafford Hamlin capped the scoring stretch with a lay-up.
The Nittany Lions, however, scored six straight points of their own to tie it at 45-45 on Tony Ward’s jumper with 3:58 to play.
Neither team scored again until Langston hit the game-winner.
Langston, Andre Purry and Wiley all scored 10 points for Long Beach.
