NEW YORK — A firebomb exploded in a Manhattan abortion and family planning clinic Tuesday as police officers, warned of the attack, were evacuating the building, authorities said. No injuries were reported.
The blast caused major damage to a second-floor bathroom of the Manhattan Women’s Medical Center, where the device was planted, and minor smoke damage from the resulting fire, police spokeswoman Janice Swinney said.
A series of three warning phone calls, all from a male, were received by officers at the 6th Precinct house, where the police bomb squad is headquartered, Swinney said.
