DOWNEY — In a continuing effort to reduce freeway congestion, the California Department of Transportation Thursday opened the first commuter park-and-ride lot in this city.
Bus riders will be able to park their vehicles free of charge at the lot at the northeast corner of Lakewood Boulevard and Interstate 5. Riders will be able to board a Southern California Rapid Transit District express bus. The route is RTD Line 466, which goes to Los Angeles, Orange and Ventura counties.
The lot, which provides 85 regular parking spaces and three for the disabled, cost Caltrans $275,000, said Thomas Knox, a department spokesman.
