Van Nuys Beats Reseda, 59-49

Senior guard Pat Meyer had 23 points and seven assists Wednesday to lead Van Nuys High to a 59-49 win at Reseda and spoil the return of Regents Coach Bill Hughes.
In the opener for both teams, the play was tentative at the start, and the first half ended with the score knotted at 23. Both coaches left the court shaking their heads over the barrage of turnovers, air balls and mistakes.
Meyer sparked the Wolves with eight third-quarter points, most coming from the 15-foot range. Van Nuys outscored the Regents, 21-9, in the period and never relinquished the lead.
Hughes, who led Reseda to successive City 3-A titles in 1983 and ‘84, came back after a one-year stay at Pierce College.
