The Times will announce selections for its annual San Gabriel Valley high school football team in the Dec. 12 edition.
The all-star squads--first and second teams, which each have 23 players--are chosen from Central Los Angeles, Orange County, Westside, San Gabriel Valley, Glendale, Southeast, South Coast, South Bay, San Fernando Valley and San Diego County. Players--11 on offense, 11 on defense and a kicker on each first and second team--are chosen primarily from nominations by prep coaches.
The annual all-star football awards breakfast, which salutes the 230 top players from the 10 first teams, will be held at 9:30 a.m. Dec. 15 at the Anaheim Hilton, 777 Convention Way. Featured speakers will be Lt. Gen. Winfield Scott, superintendent of the Air Force Academy, and Bruce Johnson, defensive coordinator for the academy’s football team. Players, their parents and coaches have been invited.
Each first-team player will receive a certificate and trophy. In addition, a back, lineman and coach of the year from each area will be announced, and each will receive a trophy for the special honor.
