NHL Roundup : Montreal, Pittsburgh Win in Shutouts
Kjell Dahlin and Mats Naslund each scored twice to lead the Montreal Canadiens to their third straight victory Monday night, a 7-0 win over the Vancouver Canucks at Montreal.
Canadien goaltender Doug Soetaert kicked out 26 shots to register his second shutout of the season and earned a standing ovation from the 16,710 fans for recording his 100th career triumph.
Soetaert had an easy night, but he was at his best in the last minute of the first period when the Canucks had their best scoring chances.
Bob Gainey, Bobby Smith and Larry Robinson also scored for the Canadiens, who have 22 goals in their last three games.
Naslund scored both his goals on breakaways in the first and third periods.
Pittsburgh 6, N.Y. Rangers 0--Doug Shedden and Mike Bullard scored early power-play goals at New York, and goalie Roberto Romano recorded the third shutout of his career as the Penguins won for the fourth time in five games.
Romano, who backstopped the Penguins to a 5-4 victory over New York Saturday night, turned aside 40 shots for his first shutout this season. The only time the Rangers could get the puck past him was when Mark Osborne hit the goal post on a 2-on-1 break early in the game.
Just moments after that, Shedden scored on a wrap-around shot to give the Penguins a 1-0 lead. Ted Nolan fired a low shot from the slot past Ranger goalie Ron Scott midway through the first period to make it 2-0.
