Pitcher Ed Whitson, whose season was punctuated by a fight with Manager Billy Martin, has asked to be traded from the New York Yankees.
Whitson signed a five-year, $4.4 milion free-agent contract with the Yankees last season. According to the New York Times, the contract includes a provision that allows him to demand a trade. Whitson was 10-8 last season with a 4.88 earned-run average.
