New York Yankee owner George Steinbrenner confirmed newspaper reports that he had met with deposed manager Billy Martin in Florida Sunday to discuss a new position for Martin, under contract to the Yankees through 1991.
Steinbrenner said he talked with Martin about two jobs: one as a member of the Yankee TV team; the other as an adviser working directly with the owner.
Steinbrenner said that Martin’s lawyer, Judge Eddie Sapir, also indicated that another club has shown interest in Martin as a manager. The talks will resume after Thanksgiving, Steinbrenner said.
