Golden West Wins a Pair at Tournament
VISALIA — Golden West College advanced to the final of the Giant Four women’s volleyball tournament by scoring preliminary-round victories over San Joaquin Delta and Cuesta Saturday at the College of the Sequoias.
In the first round, the Rustlers defeated San Joaquin Delta, 15-7, 7-15, 15-13, 15-2. In the second round, Golden West scored a 15-12, 6-15, 15-10, 15-10 victory over Cuesta.
On the day, sophomore setter Julie Boland led Golden West with 76 assists. Freshman outside hitter Lisa Manfree had a total of 31 kills.
The victories improved Golden West’s record to 11-3. The Rustlers, ranked second in the state, will meet the winner of the Cuesta-San Joaquin Delta match in today’s 4 o’clock final.
