Downey
The Downey Unified School District Board of Trustees has approved the sale of a portion of Ward Elementary School to the state Department of Transportation for a street extension in anticipation of traffic flow from the proposed Century Freeway being built half a block away.
Caltrans will purchase 13,500 square feet for $178,000 to extend Adoree Street from Airpoint Avenue to Barlin Avenue to help ease traffic congestion, said Peter Lippman, district business manager. In addition to fencing the new boundaries of the school, Caltrans also will relocate the soccer goal and baseball diamond currently on the site to another area in the school as part of the agreement.
