Torres Establishes Council to Honor Deserving Youths
- Share via
Rep. Esteban Torres (D-Pico Rivera) has formed a Congressional Award Council to honor persons ages 14 to 23 for achievements in volunteer service, personal development and physical fitness.
Tom Walsh, a telephone company executive from West Covina, has been appointed to head the council, which will raise funds for the program and recommend award winners to the national Congressional Award Council.
The privately funded congressional award program was established in 1979. Each member of Congress is authorized to establish a district council to promote the program and to recommend award recipients, based on hours devoted to voluntary public service; development of personal interests and social, leadership and employment skills, and improvement of personal health and fitness.
