Channel Islands Faces Westlake in Crucial Game
Westlake and Channel Islands will meet in an important Marmonte League football game tonight at Hueneme High.
Channel Islands (3-1 in league, 4-2-1 overall) entered action this week half a game behind front-running Simi Valley (3-0, 6-1) in the league standings.
Westlake (2-1, 5-2), boasts the Valley area’s top offense. Led by running back Gary Wellman and quarterback Brad Gossen, the Warriors average 40 points and 457 yards a game. Westlake’s problem has been its defense, which gives up 314 yards a game.
In other games Saturday night, Murphy meets Bell-Jeff at Burroughs and Cathedral plays St. Genevieve at Birmingham.
In day games, Harvard plays host to Leuzinger, the Desert-Mountain Conference’s No. 1-ranked team, while Western Christian meets Los Angeles Lutheran, Marshall plays Montclair Prep and La Verne Lutheran faces Village Christian in Alpha League action.
