Louis A. Chase; Prominent Attorney, Philanthropist

A memorial service is scheduled on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Temple Emanuel in Beverly Hills for Louis A. Chase, who was president of the temple when it was dedicated at its new location at Clark Drive and Dayton Way in 1955.
Chase, a prominent attorney and Jewish philanthropist and activist, was 81 when he died Oct. 26 at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center of heart failure. He was a former board member of the medical center.
Over the years, Chase was several times president of the Jewish Federation Foundation, the Southern California chapter of the Union of American Hebrew Congregations and a vice president of the national group. He also headed the foundation’s 1983 dinner at which Dr. Armand Hammer of Occidental Oil was honored.
He is survived by his wife, Rose Mary; a daughter, Judith Franzblau; a son, Dr. Michael Chase; two grandchildren, and his sister, Rose Hirsh.
