Bakraoui’s Goal Gives USIU 1-0 Victory

Rachid El Bakraoui scored in the 41st minute Wednesday to give USIU a 1-0 win over Cal State Los Angeles in a Southwest Conference soccer match at Los Angeles.

Bakraoui’s 11th goal of the season, assisted by Mark Allen, gave him the team lead in scoring as the Gulls (6-0-1 in conference, 12-3-2 overall) took possession of first place in the conference. Cal State Los Angeles is 6-1 and 11-3.

Goalkeeper Gary Francis made four saves in the match--two in the final four minutes--to register his seventh shutout of the season.

The Gulls will next face New Mexico in the UNLV Tournament Saturday at Las Vegas. USIU returns home for its final home match of the year Nov. 9 against San Diego State.
