Mission Viejo : Forced Landing of Copter Investigated
Military authorities are investigating the forced landing of a Marine helicopter near a Mission Viejo residential area Tuesday night , a Marine spokeswoman said Wednesday.
Staff Sgt. Vicki Conkel said a pilot and two crewmen were on a routine training flight out of the El Toro Marine Corps Air Station in a CH-46 Sea Knight helicopter at 7:15 p.m. when the craft made a precautionary landing near Oso and Marguerite parkways.
Conkel said the pilot was experiencing control problems just before the landing. No injuries were reported and there was no damage to property or the aircraft, which was later flown back to the El Toro base.
The CH-46 is a large, assault-type helicopter that carries personnel and equipment.
