PHILADELPHIA — Led by the smooth setting of Kumi NaKa Da, the Japanese national woman’s volleyball team defeated the U.S. team, 15-13, 20-18, 15-12, at the University of Pennsylvania to take a 4-2 lead in the U.S.A. Volleytour ’85.
Japan dominated in the first and third games, but the United States rallied from a 7-0 deficit in the second game behind the power hitting of Caren Kemner to pull within 13-12, playing the Japanese point for point until losing the ball on two service errors.
