BELAFONTE GETS FIRST ARTS, JUSTICE AWARD

NEW YORK — Harry Belafonte became the first recipient of a new Arts and Justice award to be presented annually by the Film Fund, virtually the only national foundation devoted solely to the support of social-issue films.
“I’m embarrassed by the honor, and I don’t really attend many of these kinds of events, but I really believe in the Film Fund,” Belafonte said before the start of the Wednesday-night program at the Ziegfeld Theatre before a capacity audience of more than 1,000.
